What is a Trick Minute?
Trick Minutes are quick trick challenges that get you started training in about a minute.

Why Teach This Trick?
Teaching your pet to shake hands is not only fun, but it also helps strengthen your bond and improves communication. It’s an intermediate trick that encourages cooperation and is great for building focus and trust!

Instructions:

  1. Get Set: Have your pet sit in front of you.
  2. Position the Treat: Hold a treat in your hand low to the ground, encouraging your pet to paw at it.
  3. Say the Cue: As soon as their paw lifts, say “Shake!” and click or mark the moment.
  4. Reward the Paw Lift: Immediately give them a treat and lots of praise.
  5. Increase Engagement: Now, reward again when their paw touches your hand, and finally, when it’s fully in your hand.
  6. Gradually Raise the Treat: Once they’re consistently lifting their paw with around 80% success, gradually increase the height of your hand while saying “Shake.” Wait a moment before encouraging them to paw at it.
